Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team visited Dupont Elementary in Chattanooga to take part in "Read Across America Week" today.  Junior Jaron Norfleet and sophomore Nick Davison spent time reading to local third and fourth graders this afternoon.

Read Across America Week is developed by the National Education Association with the purpose of motivating children to read.  Read Across America Day is March 2 every year, the birthday of beloved Children's author Dr. Suess.  Norfleet also took part in this event on Tuesday at McBrien Elementary in East Ridge.

"I have always liked working with kids and promoting reading is a great cause," stated Norfleet.  "They were excited to see us today and it shows that being a student-athlete means that you are a role model and kids do look up to you.  They see you on TV or when you are in your jersey and they pay more attention to you and what you are doing."

Norfleet and Davison are currently taking part in spring practice at UTC.  Norfleet just finished his third season with the Mocs and is No. 1 on the depth chart at defensive end.  Davison transferred to Chattanooga from UAB for the spring semester and is No. 1 on the depth chart at defensive tackle.

"I like doing it because I remember when I was a kid and how excited I would get when athletes would come read to us," added Davison.  "It is a great experience for the kids, but it is also great for us to see how excited everyone is about Mocs football."
