Dr. Johnson begins his third year as the UTC Department of Athletics' sport psychologist. He is a licensed psychologist in Tennessee (#2987), as well as in Georgia and Texas.

Dr. Johnson has a number of years as a practicing licensed psychologist, with a specialization in sport psychology. He has worked with student-athletes in football, softball, volleyball, basketball, golf, tennis, baseball, track/cross-country, wrestling, water polo, and swimming, to name a few. His work includes both clinical counseling (e.g., depression, eating disorders) and performance enhancement (e.g., imagery, attention control), covering work with both individuals and teams.

Dr. Johnson is an assistant professor of psychology at UTC, teaching sport psychology, a senior seminar in psychological processes, health psychology, and other courses as assigned. He has published articles addressing the mind-body connection, athlete development, and doping in sports, presenting his work at national conferences (e.g., the American Psychological Association and Association for Applied Sport Psychology). His articles appear in journals such as the American Journal of Psychology, the International Journal of Sport Psychology, the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, the International Journal of Sport Sciences and Coaching, the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology, and others.

Dr. Johnson is an member of the World Anti-Doping Agency's Social Sciences Researcher Registry.
