The Mocs posted a 2-1 win over UNC Asheville last week and head into the Gardner-Webb Under Armour Border Classic with a 2-2 overall record. UTC holds a slight scoring edge over its opponents and has nine goals on the season. Junior Crystal Mackezyk has a team-high three goals and seven points. Sophomore Hannah Wyatt has a team-best two assists to go along with two goals and is second on the team in scoring with six points. Sophomore Clare Latham also has a pair of goals and freshman Monica Speth has a team-high two assists. Also scoring for UTC is sophomore Melanie Arredondo (goal), freshman Hailey Callis (goal) and sophomore Skylar Brewer (assist). Sophomore Lauren Thomas has 21 saves on the year with eight goals against for a .724 saves percentage. Senior Taylor Mangrum has not given up a goal for a 1.000 saves percentage in five tries.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a double-overtime tie against North Florida before dropping the next two matches at Charlotte and South Carolina State. GWU’s lone win was a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Francis Marion. This will be Gardner-Webb’s second match against a Southern Conference opponent after dropping a 2-1 contest against Wofford last Sunday. The Bulldogs have scored five goals this season with three coming off the foot of Shelby Hooe who also assisted on GWU’s other two goals. Ele Margelos and Whitley Bowman have each scored for the Bulldogs while Meagan Reynolds has a team-best two assists and Tara Woelfel has one assist. Amy Schmitt has played all 487:47 in goal and has 26 saves for a .765 saves percentage and given up eight goals for a 1.48 goals against average.
The last time they met …
The two teams met last season in Boiling Springs, N.C., with the Mocs posting a 1-0 victory. Crystal Mackezyk scored the game-winning goal in the 13th minute and the Mocs held off the Bulldogs for the remainder of the game for the win despite being outshot 13-9. The score started off on a corner kick from Hannah Wyatt to Lauren Wilson. However, that shot was blocked. Wyatt picked up the errant ball and sent it back to Mackezyk for the score. Lauren Thomas made seven saves for the Mocs.
Chattanooga vs. Gardner-Webb
Chattanooga is 2-1-1 against the Bulldogs. UTC won the first meeting in 2009 1-0 in overtime in the opening game of the Border Classic. The Bulldogs took the next by a 1-0 margin in the same tournament. The tied it up 3-3 in double-overtime in 2011 and Chattanooga edged out GWU 1-0 last season.
