CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team will head to Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday night to close out the 2013 season. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. Live stats and video streaming will be available on the schedule page at GoMocs.com.
Chattanooga is ranked eighth in the SoCon in scoring with 68 points, goals scored with 24 and sixth for assists with 20. UTC has allowed 51 goals for a 2.98 goals against average and is second in the league with 146 saves while registering one shutout this season.
Junior Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) is ranked seventh in the league with 1.13 points per contest and her seven assists are third best in the Southern conference. Senior Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) is ranked second in the league for saves with 109 averaging 7.27 per game.
The Bulldogs are third in the SoCon with 290 shots, averaging 16.11 per game and is fourth in the league in points with 80 (4.44/game). Samford has 29 goals on the year and 22 assists, both ranking fourth in the conference standings.
Amanda Abbott leads the Bulldogs with 18 points on eight goals (5th)- four game winners- and two assists, ninth in the SoCon. Malcanisha Kelley is tied for ninth in the league with six goals – three game winners – while Jordan Johnson is tied for eighth with five assists. In goal, Katie Peters has a goals against average of 0.92, fifth in the SoCon while teammate Melissa Montgomery, playing just 685 minutes, has a 1.05 GAA.
The Mocs went 5-3 in non-conference play but have yet to get a mark against the Southern Conference. Senior keeper Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) moved up to second all-time at UTC for saves in a career despite sitting out all of last year. Her 361 is 10th all-time in the Southern Conference, passing former UTC player Stacey Mattheissen on the list. She is 101 career grabs behind the Mocs’ all-time leader Iva English (1996-98). This season, Mangrum has 109 saves ranking ninth on the single-season list where she is also ranked third (134, 2011) and seventh (118, 2010).
Chattanooga is led in scoring by junior Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) with five goals and seven assists. She ranks fourth on the Mocs’ single-season list for assists. She has 33 career points and ranks ninth at UTC on the all-time list. She is also ninth for goals (12) and assists (9) while her 131 shots ranks fifth all0time at UTC.
