Mocs Prep for Season in Friendly with Murray State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team closed out summer preseason with a friendly Saturday morning at Finley Stadium against Murray State.

The scrimmage consisted of three 30-minute periods with free substitutions. The Mocs got on the board first with scoring from freshman Monica Speth (Janesville, Wisc.) who picked up a pass from Clare Latham (Cordova, Tenn.) in the first period. However, the Mocs would give the goal back on an own goal later in the period to make it 1-1.

In the second of the three periods, the Racers scored twice for the eventual 3-1 score. MSU’s Julie Mooney scored on an assist from Lindey Hunt to go up 2-1 in the second and Lauren Frazier put in an insurance goal off a pass from Bronagh Kerins late in the period to make it 3-1.

In the third period, the Mocs had the chance to cut it to one goal. UTC’s Skylar Brewer (Farragut, Tenn.) was pulled down inside the box on her way to the goal, drawing a penalty. However, Latham was unable to get past the Murray State keeper who made a diving save to the right.

Chattanooga opens the season Friday, August 23 at Finley Stadium against instate foe Austin Peay. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Concessions will be open and the game will have streaming video and audio available by subscription at, the official website of Mocs Athletics.
