Chattanooga Comes Out to Meet the Mocs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletics department held its annual “Meet the Mocs” event Saturday at the First Tennessee Pavilion at Finley Stadium. More than 1,500 alumni, friends and family came out to meet their favorite UTC student-athletes and coaches.

The Chattanooga football team was joined by their comrades from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, wrestling, soccer, track & field and volleyball. Cheerleaders and Sugar Mocs were there as well, while the Marching Mocs played to the delight of the assembled throng.

“This is my first ‘Meet the Mocs’,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics David Blackburn stated. “I love the enthusiasm around our programs and our student-athletes. Most importantly I liked that this wasn’t about just one sport, but it was about all of them. That is exciting for me.”

Football is the starter for the day. With the new season fast approaching, today’s event came on the heels of Friday night’s scrimmage, which was a first look for season ticket holders and UTC Mocs Club members.

“I thought it was a great day,” Head Football Coach Russ Huesman added. “It’s an opportunity for our guys to interact with our alumni and fans. I know I enjoy getting to visit with everyone who comes out, and our players get a lot out of it too. We get a lot of former guys back as well, so it is a family atmosphere.”

While football is at the front of everyone’s mind, they were not alone this afternoon.

“It’s important for us to engage our fan base,” added Head Wrestling Coach Heath Eslinger. “There is so much to be proud of when you talk about our athletics programs. It was great that so many student-athletes from our different sports were able to come out and feel the support we are so fortunate to have here in Chattanooga.”

The Mocs open the season on Thursday night, August 29, with UT Martin coming to town. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m., with festivities prior to (tailgating) and following the game (fireworks.). Click the season ticket link above for information on the packages available that suit your needs.
