Head coach Wes Moore
Opening statement ... "It was a tough battle. Appalachian State did a good job of mixing up their defenses and keeping us off balance. Down the stretch, I felt like our kids made plays when they needed to. They've done that all year long. I'm really proud of the way they hung in there when things were a little shaky and were able to make plays down the stretch to pull it out."
On the differences in today's game compared to the regular-season matchups..."We knew it would be tough. At their place we shot 63 percent in the first half. Everything went our way. We had a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence. I knew today would be different. They start four seniors, so you knew they were going to lay it all out there, and they did. We were fortunate to have some players who, in a clutch time, could hit some shots. Alex Black hit a couple of big 3s when we had to have them. Taylor Hall hit her free throws. We out-rebounded them, which is hard to do. They are a great rebounding team. We also had more points off of turnovers, and that's hard to do. Playing against their defense can really cause you problems offensively."
Junior forward Taylor Hall
On their play on the road..."I knew I had to knock them down. For a while, we really weren't attacking much. Once we started attacking, they kept fouling, and I was able to knock my shots down."
On getting back to the SoCon championship game..."We know this program has really high expectations. We won the regular season but we know that isn't our overall goal. It feels good to be back and to get this program back where it is supposed to be."
Senior guard Kayla Christopher
On the victory.... "We're really excited. This is where we wanted to get, but we know we aren't finished yet. We have to keep our focus. We can celebrate this for a couple of hours, but there is a quick turnaround tomorrow. We need to make sure we switch our focus to tomorrow as soon as we figure out who we play."
Junior forward Ashlen Dewart
On being successful offensively against tough defense.... "Every game is a battle, especially in conference tournament time. I think our guards have done a great job hitting their shots and drawing the defense out. It's a give-or-take game. If I score, the guards are more open, if they score, it opens things inside for me. I think we've done a good job of balancing that out in the last two games."
