The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team closed out play in the Winthrop Fall Shootout in Winthrop, S.C. today. The Mocs scored a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory on the last day of the round-robin tournament.
Freshman Marco Morelli (Pillar, Argentina) finished a perfect weekend in singles with his third win today. He defeated Winthrop’s Chase Altieri (6-4, 6-1) in the No. 7 singles group. Fellow freshman Austin Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga.) also scored a win in the No. 7 flight. He defeated Winthrop’s J.D. O’Brien 6-2, 6-2.
Grigorjevs also had a chance to make some noise in singles play. He battled Comerford for the No. 1 Flight title in a three-set match. Grigorjevs won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second 7-5. Comerford closed out his win 6-1 in the third.
The Mocs are back in action this weekend for the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Knoxville, Tenn. Action takes place from Oct. 11-15. Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for complete results.
