CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball dropped a 3-1 match on the road to Georgia Southern Friday night in Statesboro, Ga. The match was one of two scheduled for the weekend. UTC looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon as the team buses from Statesboro to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel.
Sophomores Briana Reid (Houston, Texas) and Lauren Gainer (Boca Raton, Fla.) each recorded double-digit kills against the Eagles Friday. Reid led the Mocs with 13 and Gainer finished second with 11, each totaling 13.0 points on the night. Junior attacker Kasey Talley (Boiling Springs, S.C.) tacked on nine kills and finished with 12.0 points for the Mocs.

Chattanooga surged back in the third set to take a 25-23 win, edging the Eagles to shorten the match to a 2-1 lead. The Mocs totaled 14 kills in the set – four more than the 10 scored in each of the first two sets – and registered the night’s best hitting percentage at .229.
The UTC defense held Georgia Southern to a match-worst .194 hitting percentage in the frame. Despite the Eagles jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the third, Chattanooga rallied back with three straight kills from the offensive leaders.
