The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team won three doubles matches and had another solid win in singles action on the final day of the Memphis Collegiate Invite. Sophomores Alison Storie and Jovana Pecovski led the Lady Mocs with a third place finish in the Gray Doubles Draw.
Storie and Pecovski defeated Abilene Christian’s Emily Conrad and Nada Marjanovic (8-1) in the Gray third place match. Juniors Kaylene Chadwell and Claire Mulyadi won the Gray Consolation Draw with an 8-4 win over Tulsa’s Carol Benito and Abilene Christian’s Ansley Boarman.
Junior Kayla Jones had another strong showing with a three-set win over Miami’s top player, Christina Raymond. After dropping the first set 5-7, Jones fought off a match point in the second frame. She took the third 6-4 to score the win (5-7, 7-5, 6-4).
“There were a lot of good teams here this weekend and we competed hard against some great competition,” stated head coach Jeff Clark. “We played well in doubles today, winning three of four matches, and Kayla had another great weekend.”
UTC wraps up its fall schedule and will now look toward spring dual action. The Lady Mocs went 18-5 in dual action last spring, their most wins since 1991. Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com in thecoming weeks for a full schedule.
