Postgame Quotes vs. Lee University

Chattanooga Women's Basketball Postgame Quotes
Lee University at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena - Chattanooga, Tenn.
Monday - Nov. 4, 2013

Chattanooga Head Coach Jim Foster

Thoughts on the game
“We picked it up near the end and just did what was necessary to win. I thought we played smart defensively but I don’t think we played hard enough. We didn’t get up and get after them. I thought we did a good job of not fouling, and we rebounded the ball better in the second half. I think that all coming at the same time and meshing together allowed us to win. Faith Dupree has probably practiced three days, Alex Black has been out for nearly four weeks and she just practiced for the first time the other day, and Ashlen has been sitting. She just started practicing fully about a week ago. Our timing and continuity will take some time as a result.”

On what he learned about his team Monday
“I learned that they know they can play harder because they did in that last five minutes. They made things happen and were a lot more aggressive. They got into passing lanes, got out in transition and got some easy baskets. I think they need to understand that the ball has to reverse and move more. I think they were trying to make things happen that weren’t there, and those are first-game jitters. What’s not there early will come later if you move the ball. But we were too stagnant and impatient on offense.”

Thoughts on freshmen not seeing the court
“The freshmen played a lot in our scrimmage. They got a lot of minutes. Because we have a game Friday and we have people who haven’t been on the floor very often, we thought it was more important our starters and more frequent reserves were in this game and involved.”

On how he feels his team played Monday
“I thought we did a great job against Tennessee Tech in our scrimmage, and today I thought we did some things very well but have areas where we need to improve. That’s what these games are about and playing games this early are about. Very few teams play their best game in November.”

Taylor Hall, Forward, Senior
Thoughts on shooting

“Free throws are something that we should control no matter what else is going on during the game.  I guess you could say we kind of survived this one.  We are really disappointed in the way that we performed.  We didn’t perform how we have been performing in practice.  We survived it, but we have a lot to work on.”

On positives that can be taken from Monday’s exhibition
“Like Coach Foster said, we executed down the stretch when we needed to, which is big, but we should have never been in that position.  We were able to knock down some shots when we needed to.”

Meghan Downes, Guard, Senior

On the final possession
“She got the rebound after the last three and we were all trying to crash.  We were trying to get the last possession so we could get the game in our hands and control it.

Thoughts on the game
“It’s not what we were expecting ourselves to look like for this game.  That kind of made us a little upset there at the end. We definitely see where we need to get better at.  Offensively we need to work on rotating the ball and hitting shots when we need to.”

On the last six minutes of the game
“Our intensity stepped up a little bit.  We started getting stops and steals on defense.  We were able to execute on those.”
