GoMocs.com is providing a weekly summer series highlighting the Chattanooga Mocs basketball program. This consists of a brief feature below and the attached highlight video from the 2012-13 season. This week’s spotlight shines on rising junior Martynas Bareika.
Bareika played in all 32 games in 2012-13 almost entirely in a reserve role. He made one start after the injury to Casey Jones at UNCG. His energy and effort off the bench was pivotal as he developed into a defensive presence on the wing.
That’s not to take away from his offensive game. Martynas was at his best taking the ball to the basket. He averaged 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game in his sophomore campaign making strong strides from his redshirt freshman season.
Here are a few of Martynas’ season highlights:
>Made first career start on January 27 at UNCG.
>Best all-around effort came at Samford keying the Mocs 74-70 win. He tallied nine points with career highs of eight rebounds and four assists in 23 minutes of playing time. He went 3-4 from the field making all three attempts from behind the arc.
>Posted 20 points in 21 minutes in the pre-holiday break win over Reinhardt. He also added seven rebounds and a career-high three steals while shooting 6-8 on his field goals (1-1 3pt) and 7-8 from the free throw line.
>Had a DI-opponent high of 12 points in the home win over The Citadel when he shot 5-9 from the floor, 2-3 from three-point range.
