Berry Named Capital One Academic All-America
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga distance runner Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America team Thursday for his accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.

Berry earned third team honors and becomes the fourth Chattanooga cross country/track and field student-athlete to be selected All-American. He joins former teammate David Moore who was named ot the team in 2011 as well as Ian Mayne (2005, 2006) and Shannon Wommack (2005, 2006).

Berry graduated in December 2010 with a 3.84 GPA in Health and Human Performance. This past May he earned his MBA with a 4.0 GPA. He is a three-time CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District honoree, a member of UTC's Dean's List each semester as well as the Athletics Director's Honor Roll and multiple Southern Conference All-Academic teams.

Berry shattered the school record this year in the men's 10,000 meter run at the Stanford Invitational to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships. He is a three-time Southern Conference champion with titles in the men's 10,000m as a junior and SoCon 5000 meter titles in 2009 in both indoor and outdoor track. Berry's 5000m school-record time held for two years before being broken earlier this season.

He was named the league's cross country Freshman of the Year as the top freshman finisher placing fourth overall in 2007. He is a four-time SoCon cross country all-conference and seven-time track and field all-conference performer.

Berry, a 2007 graduate of Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., was married to former teammate Tara Gietema in November 2011 following the cross country campaign.
