CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga runners Amanda Sumner (Bristol, Conn.) and Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) will head to the Duke Twilight meet to compete Sunday afternoon in hopes of earning a bid to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional.
Sumner earned all-conference status at the recent Southern Conference Championships with a third place finish in the women’s 1500 meter run. She will run the mixed 10,000 meter event. Western Carolina’s Travis Alfaro and Mara Smith will also be in the race along with several competitors from host Duke.
Wanuch, who will run the 3000 meter Steeplechase on Sunday, was named all-conference in the 5000 meter run with a runner-up finish at the league championships. He just missed all-conference status with a fourth place finish in the steeplechase and is ranked sixth in the South Region with a time of 9:11.18.
On Sunday, the Duke Twilight will kick off with the javelin throw at noon on Duke’s East Campus. All other events including the men’s hammer throw at 2 p.m. will be held on Duke’s West Campus. Running events will begin at 5 p.m. at Wade Wallace Stadium.
