Indoor Track Heads to Niswonger Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will head to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State at the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center Saturday.

Cross country All-American Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) will compete in the women’s 3000 meter for the women while men’s distance runner senior Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.) will run the men’s 3000 meter. This will be the first indoor meet of the year for Henderson who placed 20th at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships last November. She was the Southern Conference Runner of the Year with the top place finish at the league championships and was less than two seconds off the lead pace at the NCAA South Region meet.

Cole earned All-Conference second team honors at the SoCon Championships. He sat out last season with an injury. Cole ran the 5000 meter at the league indoor championships two years ago and competed throughout the season in the 3000 meter, Mile and 800 meter runs.

Saturday’s events will be on a rolling schedule beginning with the 5000 meter finals. The 3000 meter runs will be the next event on the college schedule followed by the Mile run and the 800 meter race.

The men’s and women’s DMR events will begin at 4 p.m. Short distances races will follow with the 3000 meter final set to start at 5:40 p.m. The Mile run is next and the event will conclude with the 4x400 meter relay.
