CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s and women’s track and field teams head to Tampa, Fla., to open the 2014 Outdoor season at the University of South Florida Open Friday.
The Mocs will run in events ranging from the 110 meter hurdles to the 3000 meter Steeplechase. Junior Paul Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) and senior John Gilpin (Nashville, Tenn.) return to the track after sitting out the indoor season. The pair are slated to run in the 1500 meter run as well as the 4x400 meter relay.
Senior Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) will run in the 3000 meter Steeplechase while Stuart and Gilpin will lead a large contingent in the 1500 meter run. They will be joined by seniors Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.) and Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.) as well as transfer Harry Smithers (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Marquis Carter (Memphis, Tenn.).
Sophomore Rebecca Greenwall (Bogart, Ga.) will lead five women into the 800 meter run. She will be joined by freshmen Jessica York (Normandy, Tenn.), Maddison Malchionna (Afton, Tenn.), Molly Smith (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Joanna Elmore (Clarksville, Tenn.).
Sophomore Iman Isang (Atlanta, Ga.) will run in the 110 meter hurdles as well as the 200 meter Dash. Sophomore Geoff Nelson (Brentwood, Tenn.) will run the 200m Dash as well and lead off one of two men’s 4x400m relay teams.
Freshmen on the women’s team will get multiple opportunities in their first collegiate outdoor meet. They will compete in the 800m, 1500m as well as 3000 meter runs and the relay.
