CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga cross country All-American Teghan Henderson is set to compete this weekend at the prestigious Stanford Invitational in hopes of earning an NCAA region qualifying time in the women’s 5000m.
The Pickering, Ontario sophomore has yet to run the 5K this season. She was all-conference in the Southern Conference Indoor Track Championships, placing third in the event after an official’s error caused runners to stop the race one lap shy before being rushed back onto the track. She also earned all-conference honors with a runner-up finish in the 3000 meter.
This season Henderson led off the women’s Distance Medley Relay team at the Alabama Relays where the Mocs placed second.
Henderson will be up against 128 runners from more than 60 collegiate and professional teams in the 5K. She will run the fifth of six heats Friday evening as she looks to run a qualifying time for the NCAA East Region meet.
Former Chattanooga distance runner and Southern Conference Female Athlete of the Year Lanni Marchant (London, Ontario) will be competing in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational. Marchant owns the Canadian Marathon record for women and will be looking to earn a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team for 2016.
