Lady Mocs Shut Out Lipscomb 7-0
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in the spring with a dominating performance at Lipscomb tonight.  The Lady Mocs scored their third straight sweep with a 7-0 win over the Lady Bison at Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.

UTC has only dropped one point in four matches this spring, and that was a 6-1 win in the season opener against Kennesaw State on Jan. 25.  The Lady Mocs continued that trend again tonight, despite head coach Jeff Clark shifting his lineup.

Freshman Kelsey Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) and Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) started the match with an 8-0 shutout of Melissa Kromer and Lorena Djunknic at No. 1 doubles.  Senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) clinched the point with an 8-6 win over Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck at No. 2.

Sophomore Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) teamed with freshman Jovana Pecovski (Apitan, Serbai) for the first time at No. 3.  They scored an 8-2 win over Alyssa Bellini and Shilpa Naruka.

UTC ran through the first three singles matches, dropping a total of three games in six sets.  Jones was first off with a (6-1, 6-0) win over Bellini at No. 3.  Chadwell shut out Kromer (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2, while Nurik clinched the win with a (6-2, 6-0) win over Welcher at No. 1.

Coots moved up to No. 4, where she won in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9)) against Djunknic.  Mulyadi also moved up to No. 5 and posted a (7-5, 6-1) win over Borck.  Freshman Alison Storie (Johnson City, Tenn.) made her first appearance of the spring, defeating Naruka (6-4, 6-0) at No. 6.

"It was a good match for us," stated head coach Jeff Clark.  "We played well from start to finish.  We got the doubles point and then the top of our lineup jumped on them in singles.  It was a good team effort all of the way."

Clark now has 99 wins in nine seasons as head coach of the Lady Mocs.  He guided UTC from 1999-01 and returned to Chattanooga for a second stint as head coach in 2008.  His career record with the Lady Mocs is 99-84.

UTC will have a chance to give Clark No. 100 on Friday, Feb. 8, when the Lady Mocs host Austin Peay.  First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Hixson Racquet Club.  A link for live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
