Mocs Seventh in Weather-Shortened First Day

OPELIKA, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is seventh after 18 holes at the Tiger Invitational on the Grand National Golf Club Lake Course. UTC shot 10-over par 298 and is two shots behind Memphis in sixth.

Junior Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) led the Mocs at level-par 72 for the soggy round. He balanced four birdies and four bogeys with 10 pars on his card. He is tied for sixth, three strokes behind South Alabama's Michael Garretson who leads at minus three, 69.

Fellow junior Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) came up big for his squad after a slow start. He was plus three opening bogey-double bogey on his first two holes. He was four-over through 15 before an eagle on the par five fourth hole and birdie on the fifth got him back to a one-over 73 finish. He is tied for 13th.

Junior Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) rounded out the counting scores. Bunn shot 76 (+4), while Fox checked in at plus five, 77. Sophomore Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) had the drop score with an 80.

East Carolina ended the weather-shortened day in front at 290 (+2). It has a two-shot lead over Mississippi State (292) in second and three-stroke cushion on No. 24 Wake Forest and Kennesaw State at 293.

Due to weather delays, a 36-hole day today became 18. That means a shotgun start Tuesday as the field plays its final 36. It starts at 8 a.m., Central time for the Mocs paired with North Carolina and host Auburn beginning on eight through 10. Live scoring is available via the men's golf schedule page on GoMocs.com and @GoMocsMGLF on twitter for updates.
