CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga cross country and track and field head coach Bill Gautier feels the 2013-14 signing class could be his best yet. That says a lot from the 13-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year.
The strong tradition in distance running and academic success will continue as all of the new Lady Mocs boast superior athletic as well as academic accomplishments.
The signing class includes five multiple all-state performers, eight multi school record holders and high academic achievers with an average ACT score of 26.5 and an average GPA of 3.76.
Hannah Chamblin, a six-time all-state performer for St. Agnes Academy in Memphis, won three state titles as a member of the 4x800 meter team. She was named all-state in the 800 meter with a runner-up finish and twice placed fifth. In cross country, Chamblin has three top 20 finishes placing 18th twice and 19th once.
Maddison Melchionna of Chucky-Doak High School in Afton, Tenn., finished runner-up in the 800 meter and the 1600 meter runs as well as a third place finish in the 1600 meter over her career. She also posted an all-state performance in cross country with a 13th place finish in the three-mile event while finishing 19th in the prestigious Footlocker Invitational.
Molly Smith helped lead her Dobyns-Bennett High School team to a state runner-up title. Over her career she earned all-state honors with a third place finish in the 800m and as a member of the 4x800 meter relay team while also placing fourth in the 800m and the 4x400 meter team.
Madalyn Garland of Rhea County High School was a 2010 Chattanooga Times Free Press “Best of Preps”. With a time of 19:36, she was named all-state in cross country. She was a multi-state qualifier in track and field running the 1600 and 3200 meters.
Chandler Rogers is a two-time state qualifier for Lenoir City (TN) High School in track. She claimed the 800 meter title at the Vol Classic Track Meet and was an all-region performer in cross country, earning a spot in the state finals.
Anna Kate Chance of Columbia Central High School is a four-time cross country state meet qualifier and earned all-region honors over her four year career She was also named to the All-Mid-State team.
Katie Ray holds school records at Hall High School in Knoxville in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m and the 5K and is an all-Southeast Footlocker performer.
Jessica York of the Webb School in Bellbuckle earned all-state honors in cross country with an 11th place finish in the Tennessee High School meet.
Jasmine Snell is a two-time all-state performer for John Overton High School in Nashville as a member of the 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter teams.
The Running Mocs will host the annual Front Runner and PowerAde Invitationals this fall at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.
