Mocs Finish Third at Cardinal Cup

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. --- Jordan Britt (Chattanooga) and Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) led the Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the Cardinal Cup. Britt finished ninth at plus four (220), while McLennan tied for 10th at plus six (222).

McLennan had the low round of the day for UTC. Her one-over par 73 in windy conditions moved her 10 spots on the leaderboard after starting the day tied for 20th.

“Emily was solid today especially considering how little practice she’s had because of an ankle injury,” Head Coach Colette Murray shared. “I’m happy with the way she and Jordan played earning their top 10’s.”

Tuesday final round saw the Mocs turn in 307 for a 901 total. It is the second straight year the squad has finished third in the event.

“It’s not the start I was hoping for, but Louisville played really, really well across the board,” Murray added. “We struggled at our four and five positions. When a team plays like Louisville did, you have to be at the top of your game.

“The good news is we get to get right back out there this Friday in Knoxville and get back at it.”

Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) ended up 25th for the Mocs shooting 11-over par 227. Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) rounded out the counters with a 232 total.

The Cardinals ran away with the event played on their home course. Their five-under par 859 topped runner-up Kansas by 22 at 881. UofL’s Laura Restrepo was the wire-to-wire winner at four-under 212. She won by a shot over her teammate Emily Haas and KU’s Yupaporn Kawinpakorn.

Chattanooga returns to action this weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. This year’s event is at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville. It opens Friday, September 13, and ends on Sunday with 18 holes played per day.
