Women Sixth, Men 11th at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.) placed fourth overall and led the Mocs to an 11th place finish in the Men’s Gold Division D1 of the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park while the women placed two in the Top 10 for a sixth place finish in the D1 Blue Division in a record rainfall.

“Lucas ran like the veteran he is,” Chattanooga head coach Bill Gautier said of the senior. “He held back and then did what he needed to do to finish near the top. That’s just what he does.”

Cotter led the men to an 11th place finish in the top division of three races with a time of 24:44.11. Senior Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.) was the second Chattanooga runner across the line with a time of 25:50.71 placing 48th out of 163 Division I runners in the 8000 meter race. Sophomore Trevor Janssen (Jordan Station, Ontario) was the third Moc across the line with a time of 26:11.50 followed by senior John Gilpin (Nashville, Tenn.) at 26:15.97 and sophomore Paul Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) with a time of 26:21.59.

Louisville took first in the race with 53 points followed by Tennessee (81), East Tennessee State (175) and Georgia Tech (186) and Florida A&M (194) finishing fifth. Rounding out the top 10 was Texas A&M (202), Morehead State (210), Eastern Kentucky “B” (230), Campbell (245) and Saint Louis (246). The Mocs, with 253 points, finished ahead of Southern Conference foes Davidson (12th – 277) and Samford (16th – 355).

In the women’s race, junior Rebecca Greenwall (Bogart, Ga.) led the Lady Mocs to a sixth place finish in the Division I Women’s Blue Division race. She placed eighth overall with a time of 18:40.34 over the 5-kilometer course. Right behind was junior Keeley Stewart (Winchester, Tenn.) who placed ninth with a time of 18:51.16.

“All of our women PR’d today,” Gautier said. “Keeley ran the race of her life. She ran smart and did really well. Rebecca was our top runner today and tried a little bit too hard, but she had a great race.”

Freshmen loaded the roster from there on with Jessica York (Normandy, Tenn.) crossing the line third for the Lady Mocs with a time of 19:31.73 followed by Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) at 19:39.94.
