The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team finished its play in the main draw at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Knoxville, Tenn. today. The Mocs dropped three second round singles matches this afternoon, but still have competitors in Sunday’s consolation bracket.
Sophomore Luke Saunders (Halifax, Nova Scotia) had a gritty battle in his match against Kentucky’s Alejandro Gomez. Gomez is the No. 7 seed in the tournament, but Saunders gave him a tough match before falling (6-4, 7-6).
Junior Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) scored the only win of the day. After losing in the main draw, he defeated Murray State’s Max McLean (6-3, 6-2) in consolation action.
Sophomore John Peacey (Emerald, Australia) lost his first round match on Friday, but will be back in consolation action on Sunday. He and Grigorjevs hit the courts at 8:30 a.m. (E.D.T.).
