SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga Lady Mocs first baseman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) was selected as the Southern Conference softball Player of the Week for March 25-31 Monday evening by the league office.
Tydingco is the first Lady Moc to be selected as a player of the week for the 2013 season after an outstanding offensive weekend from the veteran first baseman led Chattanooga to three SoCon wins.
Tydingco slugged 1.700 with a .600 batting average over four games for the Lady Mocs, leading Chattanooga to a sweep over the Western Carolina Catamounts. The senior first baseman tallied six hits, including two doubles and three home runs. Kasey homered in three of the four games played last week, including one against Georgia State and two against the Catamounts.
The first baseman also drove in nine Chattanooga runs while recording just two strikeouts and walking three times - plus being hit by a pitch - to post a .714 on base percentage. The defensive star also maintained a 1.000 fielding percentage along with a team-best 33 put-outs.
Tydingco now leads UTC with a .371 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 11 extra-base hits. The senior has blasted a team-best four home runs and has driven in 25 runs at the plate. On the season, Tydingco is slugging .562 and displays a good eye at the plate with 17 walks.
The player of the week and the Lady Mocs host Georgia Southern this weekend at Frost Stadium as Chattanooga welcomes the Eagles to the Scenic City for a three-game series at Warner Park.
