SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Katie Henderson (Hixson, Tenn.) was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon by the league’s office in Spartanburg, S.C. It is the sophomore’s first SoCon weekly honor.
The right-hander was 2-0 over the weekend, leading the Mocs to a couple of non-conference wins over Middle Tennessee at Frost Stadium Friday and Saturday. With the two victories, Henderson improved her overall wins total to 14 and lowered her ERA to 1.88 on the season.
Henderson maintained a 1.75 ERA in eight innings pitched against the Blue Raiders. The sophomore started one game and held opposing bats to a .156 average in the series. During the set, Henderson gave up just five hits – two for extra bases – and walked three batters.
So far this season, Henderson leads the Mocs pitching staff in wins (14-8) and strikeouts (120). She has started the bulk of Chattanooga’s games (20) and is holding opponents to a .212 batting average on the year.
Henderson is the second UTC pitcher to garner Pitcher of the Week honors. Junior was recognized as March 17-23’s top dealer. It is the fourth SoCon weekly award for Chattanooga this season, including Players of the Week (Clarksville, Tenn.) and (Chickamauga, Ga.) (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
