Sophomore designated player Laci Upchurch (Madison, Tenn.) hit her 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth, tying for second all-time on the single season list.
Freshman shortstop Tia Blosser (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned the first hit for the Lady Mocs in the bottom of the fourth with a lobbed ball to left field but was left on first as the inning closed.
Upchurch picked up the second hit for the team with her solo shot over left center in the bottom of the sixth putting the Lady Mocs up 1-0 with one out.
In the top of the seventh, Greensboro’s Lyndsay Mouse reached on a lead-off single before stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Kara Clouser tallied the RBI on her double down the left field tying things up at one all.
Senior first baseman Alyssa Edwards (Geneva, N.Y.) hit a one-out single before freshman Nicole D’Apice (Knoxville, Tenn.) came into the game to pinch run. D’Apice advanced to second on sophomore third baseman Toni Hutchison’s (Madison, Tenn.) ground out, but was stranded as the inning closed with the score still tied at 1-1.
The Spartans’ Adriane Audley reached on a hit by pitch with one out in the eighth before scoring on Leslie Furness’ double to right center to put Greensboro up 2-1 going into the bottom of the inning.
And that’s the way the score would stay despite another single by Upchurch in the bottom of the eighth.
