CONFERENCE TITLE CRUNCH TIME IN CHARLESTON The eight-time Southern Conference Champions Lady Mocs (33-28, 14-4 SoCon) look to make it nine titles as the team heads to Charleston, S.C. to take on the Cougars of College of Charleston (32-22, 13-5 SoCon). The series is pivotal in determining the regular season Southern Conference champion with the Cougars only one game behind the Lady Mocs. The two teams have already clinched the top two spots.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS The College of Charleston Cougars (32-22, 13-5 SoCon) are coming off of a split with Charleston Southern on Wednesday at home. Last weekend in conference play, the Cougars took the series over the UNC Greensboro Spartans in Greensboro, but dropped game three in a 7-4 decision. At the plate, senior first baseman Jennifer Golden leads the team in batting average (.424), RBIs (57), doubles (11), home runs (14), slugging percentage (.759) and hits (67). And in the circle, freshman Teri Mesko leads the way with a 2.15 ERA, throwing 177 strikeouts on 176.0 innings pitched. She has an overall record of 17-10 and an opponent’s batting average of .220. Last season College of Charleston finished second (14-7) in the regular season before bowing out of the Southern Conference Tournament early in two quick losses to Furman and Georgia Southern. The team was voted to finish fourth in the conference preseason poll receiving two first-place votes after returning six players from last season. Last season Golden received All-Conference Second Team honors in the outfield but was not named to either Preseason All-Conference Team.

THE SERIES The Lady Mocs are 19-12 all-time against the Cougars. Last season, College of Charleston swept Chattanooga in all three games, winning 3-2, 3-1 and 7-1.

BACK TO THE BLAZERS The Lady Mocs dropped both games of its last non-conference doubleheader in Birmingham, Ala. at UAB 3-2, 7-3 (nine innings).

Senior Alyssa Edwards, junior Tara Tembey and freshman Brittany Eason all tallied a pair of hits and an RBI each to lead the team at the plate.

In the circle, freshman Brooke Loudermilk had the best showing for the team, allowing three runs to score, two earned, but she and senior Ashley Frizzell were both charged with a loss each.

LOUDERMILK LOOKED AT NATIONALLY Freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk is currently the lone Lady Moc to receive national attention. She is ranked 29th on the Most Strikeouts per Seven Inning Game list, averaging 8.8 per game. She also is tied for 21st on the Most Wins list with 21.

RATING THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE The most recent RPI ratings are in for games through April 30, and Chattanooga has come out on top over other conference opponents again. The Lady Mocs received a 93 rating with College of Charleston in second at 140. UNC Greensboro (158), Elon (169), Georgia Southern (184), Western Carolina (185), Appalachian State (186) and Furman (212) round out the conference teams. The Southern Conference as a whole is 22nd overall out of the 31 Division I conferences with Chattanooga listed as the top team.
