Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Chattanooga reserves all made appearances out in the field in the team’s final regular season game, but a walk-off home run by College of Charleston’s Jennifer Golden in the bottom of the eighth boosted the Cougars over the Lady Mocs 8-6.
The Lady Mocs head to Greensboro, N.C. for the Southern Conference Championships on Tuesday and will face the UNC Greensboro Spartans at 12:00 p.m. in the first round.
The game started off hot with Chattanooga picking up three runs on two hits followed by a four-run bottom half of the inning by the Cougars.
Sophomore center fielder Ashley Cuticchia (Rising Fawn, Ga.) scored the tying run in the top of two off of sophomore third baseman Toni Hutchison’s (Madison, Tenn.) sacrifice fly to left field.
Chattanooga picked up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on freshman Tia Blosser’s (Knoxville, Tenn.) two-out shot to left center scoring senior left fielder Jeannie Cochran (Maryville, Tenn.) and Cuticchia to put the Lady Mocs up 6-4.
Reserves junior Ashlan Clarkson (Chickamauga, Ga.) and sophomore Lindsey Davis (Okinawa, Japan) both picked up singles.
Katie Sansouci collected her 11th win of the season, pitching 2/3 inning, improving her overall record to 11-6.
Senior pitcher Ashley Frizzell (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) was charged with the loss, dropping her overall record to 12-14.
The Lady Mocs finish conference play with a 16-5 conference record, 35-29 overall. The Cougars finish second in the SoCon regular season with a 14-7 record, 33-24 overall.
