CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following the ninth Southern Conference Tournament title in the program’s 15-year history, the Chattanooga Lady Mocs landed four players on the 2008 All-Tournament Team, including the Most Outstanding Player Brooke Loudermilk.
Loudermilk was an easy choice for MOP as she pitched in all seven games, recording a 5-0 record, 1.01 ERA, three complete games and 48 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work while walking only seven batters. She also limited opposing hitters to a .165 batting average.
Against Western Carolina, the Locust Grove, Ga. native notched 14 strikeouts for the 18th double-digit K performance of her career and seventh this season.
Joining her on the All-Tournament Team were senior shortstop Tara Tembey (Folsom,Calif.), junior outfielder Laci Upchurch (Madison, Tenn) and freshman second baseman Tiffany Baker (East Ridge, Tenn.).
Tembey belted three home runs, including two in the decisive 10-1 victory over Georgia Southern, while batting .400 and scoring five runs, producing six RBIs and swiping two bases.
Upchurch pounded two home runs and drove in eight runs as she batted .333. She also added two doubles, four runs and a team-high tying five walks. Baker ripped three doubles as she hit .400 with a key two-run home run in the win over the College of Charleston and produced three RBIs and scored five times.
It is the fourth time that Chattanooga has placed four players on the All-Tournament Team and the first time since 2005. That same year Melissa Ramirez earned the Lady Mocs’ last Most Outstanding Player award.
UTC has now earned 44 Southern Conference All-Tournament honors and have earned nine Most Outstanding Player awards in the 15-year history of the program.
