CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior designated player Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday for her performance at Western Carolina. Fuzzard broke the SoCon single-season RBI record of 64 and now has 67 on the year. This is the fourth weekly award for Fuzzard, three players and one pitcher of the week honors.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native went 10-for-13 at the plate with a double, two home runs and 13 RBI.  She compiled a .769 batting average, 1.308 slugging and .789 on-base pct., as Chattanooga recorded the most league victories in SoCon history with a 20-3 mark.

Fuzzard also holds the Lady Mocs single-season record for RBI and broke it in game one of the series with a single up the middle for her second RBI of the contest during the fourth. Fuzzard's stay alone at the top lasted one pitch as senior third baseman Tiffany Baker (East Ridge, Tenn.) singled to center to tie the mark at 56. Angela Brewer was the previous leader entering the season with 55 RBI in 2001.

The two home runs that the designated player connected on moved her into second place with 26 in her career. Teammate Baker is the Chattanooga and SoCon all-time home run leader with 47.

In the first game of the series at the Catamount Softball Complex, Fuzzard recorded three hits and went with the pitches that she was given to drive in three runs. The Lady Mocs went on to a 12-4 victory that was capped by junior shortstop Jessica Traxler's (Chino Hills, Calif.) grand slam in the seventh.

Game two started off for Fuzzard with a lucky bounce as a lined shot went off the top of the fence in center and fell over for a solo shot. She continued to roll in the second with a RBI single through the right side. The third hit of the game was a bases clearing double to right center increasing her RBI total to five in the game.

Fuzzard continued the impressive performance at the plate with a 4-for-5 outing and five RBI in the series finale. She singled to left center driving in a run in the four-run fourth. A RBI single up the middle began the 10-run come-back victory in the sixth and was capped by a three-run shot to left leading to a 14-6 victory after six innings.

Chattanooga has now claimed seven weekly awards on the season as five different Lady Mocs have been recognized by the conference.

The Lady Mocs open the Southern Conference Tournament in Statesboro, Ga., on Wednesday at 2 p.m., as the No. 1 seed.
