STATESBORO, Ga. - Senior pitcher Nikki Waters (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) tossed a two-hit complete game for the Southern Conference Tournament No. 1 seed University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team in a 7-1 victory Thursday over No. 5 Elon at Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga. Junior designated player Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) drove in three runs for the Lady Mocs increasing her SoCon leading RBI total to 71.

Waters improved to 11-3 overall in the circle and struck out five batters without allowing any free passes. The Lady Mocs defense was up to the task all day making routine plays on balls hit in play.

The Lady Mocs (40-12) advance to the winner's bracket final to be played Friday at 3 p.m. against the winner between No. 6 UNCG and No. 7 Samford. Elon falls into the loser's bracket and faces No. 2 Appalachian State at 10 a.m.

After the Phoenix (30-23) tied the contest at one in the fourth, Chattanooga batted around in the fifth scoring five runs on three hits to put itself firmly in control of the game.

Senior right fielder Della Harrison (Nashville, Tenn.) continued to swing a hot bat for the Lady Mocs, registering a 2-for-4 performance and blasting her second home run of the tournament. Also, notching a multi-hit game for the second game in a row was sophomore second baseman Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.).

Chattanooga struck first in the third as junior shortstop Jessica Traxler (Chino Hills, Calif.) drew a walk and senior left fielder Lauren Flores (Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.) singled just in front of the left fielder down the line putting runners at first and second.

After a walk to senior center fielder Lyndsey Stiles (Hixson, Tenn.) loaded the bases, Poteat notched a bloop single just over the second baseman driving Traxler in from third. Elon's Erin O'Shea was able to get through the heart of the Chattanooga lineup without further damage in the frame to keep it a one-run game.

The game was quickly tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Carleigh Nestor drove the first pitch over the fence in left. Waters settled down and retired two of the next three hitters on strikes to end the fourth.

An error that allowed Stiles to reach first as the ball hopped out of the first baseman's glove in the fifth set up a big inning for Chattanooga. Poteat executed a perfect drag bunt single to the pitcher putting two runners on base. Fuzzard, the SoCon Player of the Year, came through with RBI number 69 and 70 on the season with a double into the gap in left center to take a 3-1 lead.

A pitching change brought in Lauren Taylor, who was able to record a groundout as freshman pinch runner Layne Rainey (Clarksville, Tenn.) came around to score.

Connecting on a homerun with one on base was Harrison, who stretched the Lady Mocs lead to 6-1. It was the second homer of the tournament and eighth of the season for the Nashville, Tenn., native.

The Lady Mocs extended their lead in the sixth as Stiles reached on a single off the pitcher's glove. The Hixson, Tenn., native then stole her 33rd base of the season.

After the second baseman muffed a pickoff attempt at second, Stiles scored on a sacrifice fly by Fuzzard putting Chattanooga up 7-1.

In the circle for Elon was O'Shea, who pitched 4.1 innings and gave up five runs, two earned, while striking out one and walking four. Taylor came on in relief to finish the contest and allowed two unearned runs and while fanning three.
