SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Freshman pitcher Taylor Deason tallied an 8-1 mark and one save during April on her way to being named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Month as the league office announced on Wednesday. The Clarksville, Tenn., native compiled a 2.18 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 57.2 innings of work.
She combined for shutouts against Samford and Tennessee Tech during April, while tallying a month-high seven strikeouts against the Bulldogs. Deason additionally posted six strikeouts in home victories against Elon and Furman.
The rookie for the Lady Mocs paces the conference with a 20-7 mark. She is the first Southern Conference hurler to hit the 20-win plateau since Brooke Loudermilk's freshman campaign in 2007,
This is the third time during the season that Deason has been recognized by the conference. She is a two-time pitcher of the week, following her collegiate debut on Feb. 13 and again on March 19.
Chattanooga completes the regular season beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. The first pitch of the finale of the three-game set is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
