CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team is hosting an interactive event on Thursday at 7 p.m. open to fans of the program at the UTC Indoor Hitting Facility. The "Meet the Lady Mocs" event provides fans and supporters the opportunity to meet the 2013 team before it begins its season on Feb. 8 in Clermont, Fla.
Coaches and student-athletes will be signing autographs and handing out schedule cards and posters to supporters in attendance. Five-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year Frank Reed will preview his squad and introduce the student-athletes during the event.
"This is a great time for fans to come out, meet the team and check out our indoor facility," Reed said. "It's an event that is always fun for the players and coaches, and I believe the fans really enjoy interacting with the team and staff. We always look forward to the open house. It's a sign that the season is right around the corner."
This season's team is in search of the program's 14th Southern Conference title and seventh under Reed. The Lady Mocs are coming off a 39-16 performance last season, going 20-2 at Frost Stadium. UTC's 20-2 mark in the SoCon tied a program-high for most conference wins.
Seniors Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.), Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) and Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) return for their final season while this will be the first season former-Moc Michelle Fuzzard joins the Chattanooga coaching staff.
Chattanooga's first pitch will be on the road Feb. 8 in Clermont, Fla. as the Lady Mocs compete in the Dot Richardson's National Training Center Invitational. UTC will take on Fordham, Southern Illinois, Long Island and Virginia Tech while the NTC.
