Coming off a historic win at Appalachian State, sophomore quarterback Jacob Huesman is the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Huesman ran and threw for over 100 yards in the Mocs 35-28 win, their first victory in Boone, N.C., in over 30 years.
For the second week in a row, Huesman orchestrated a fourth quarter comeback for Chattanooga. He was 6-6 for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the final 15 minutes on Saturday.
Early in the final period, Huesman hit junior receiver Terrell Robinson for a 31-yard strike to tie the game at 21. He threw his second TD pass with nine minutes left, a 29-yard play to freshman Xavier Borishade, to give Chattanooga a 28-21 advantage.
For the game, Huesman finished with 132 rushing yards and a TD on 16 carries. His rushing TD was a seven-yard bruiser on a fake field goal. He is now fifth in the league in rushing (86.7) and rushing TDs (8). He was 13-19 through the air for 127 yards and the two scores.
It is the first time this season and the fifth time in his career Huesman ran and threw for over 100 yards in the same game. It is the first SoCon recognition for the Chattanooga native of the season and the second offensive honor of his career.
The win at Appalachian State puts the Mocs in first place in the SoCon race at 5-1, 7-2 overall. The Mocs host Wofford (5-3, 4-1 SoCon) in what is arguably the biggest regular season game in Finley Stadium history on Saturday.
