Postgame Quotes vs. Davidson - Jan. 6, 2014

Head Coach Jim Foster
On the lineup near the end of the game

“We wanted a little more size.  Tatianna Jackson had 10 points and was aggressive in attacking the basket.  It was a team that had some versatility to it, but quick and a good defensive mindset at the end was what we were looking for.”

Thoughts on Tatianna Jackson’s play
“She did a good job.  She is figuring out where her opportunities are and is playing harder and longer.  As a result, those opportunities pop up more often.”

On the team’s toughness throughout the game
“You’re playing teams that are familiar with you, and you with them.  Those games are a little bit more about the head.  You have to fight through some stuff.  We talked a little bit about toughness and about the last five minutes we were very tough.  Toughness is a lot of different things.  It’s Red taking her time with the three when she had the three-point field goal.  It’s Ka’Vonne getting a huge rebound when they had cut it to three after the tie.  Defensively, getting up and not letting the Murray kid not get good looks at the basket.  She is their best player and is one of the best guards in the league.  We were playing a team that executes very well, plays intelligently and goes at your weaknesses.  You have to be tough enough to see past that.”

On Red Payne’s big three-pointer
“She’s made them all season.  She may be reluctant to take them but she is not afraid to when the game is on the line.  She made a couple of big threes in the Auburn game and she knows when she is on the stage.  She knows when it is time to step up.”

Taylor Hall, forward, senior
Thoughts on the effort of the team

“I think it was a little better, but we still lost our heads at times on offense.  Sometimes we didn’t get into our sets like we should have, but I think we picked it up defensively and played a lot better than Saturday.  We also rebounded better, I feel like.”

On playing defense and rebounding
“That is an effort thing and just crashing the boards.  We had to play good defense, box out and that’s what we should control every game.  We did it this time.  We did a great job of crashing and getting us second-chance opportunities.”

On bench production
“Our bench did a great job. They always do a great job so I guess I am kind of used to that.  They really picked up the game whenever they came in.”

Faith Dupree, forward, senior
On the team’s effort
“I don’t think it was just our rebounds.  I think it was our overall effort and that showed tonight.  Davidson played a lot better in the second half and keeping us off the boards, but I felt like our effort was still there.  It helped us down the stretch.”

On the bench’s production
“We have a lot of people who can contribute and that is going to help us on down the road in the postseason.  We can rely on our bench when other teams can’t.  That is going to wear down other teams and help us out a lot when we are having a rough game.”
