Postgame Quotes vs. Wofford - Jan. 18, 2014

Head Coach Jim Foster
Thoughts on the slow start

“We just weren’t making shots. We were getting shots early.  The ball was moving so I wasn’t concerned.  I knew the ball would start to fall.”

On Chattanooga’s defensive effort
“We’ve been talking about defense and we’ve been practicing very intensely the last three days relative to defense.  There’s not a whole lot that you can improve this time of the year, you can tweak things, you can work on some offensive things, but the biggest improvement you can make this time of year is defense and just getting everybody on the same page, a lot more communication and movement. But I liked our defense, I liked our defensive intensity.”

On the advantage and scoring in the paint
“Well I think that ball movement facilitated that.  If you move yourselves and move the ball you are going to get good opportunities. Ashlen got some and our guards could sort of sneak in and picked up some.  I thought in the second half we ran a lot better ran wider lanes and attacked the basket better.”

Thoughts on leading games by so many points
“It’s good to get everybody an opportunity.  They all work hard, and we have 13.  I’ve told them at the beginning of the year that getting 13 in a game is something that is not easy to do, and the days that we have the opportunity to do we’ll do it.”

Ashlen Dewart, senior, forward

Thoughts on the big win
“Personally, I think games like this are dangerous because you can’t come in lackadaisical. I think we did a good job of coming in and starting strong. You can’t relax because an opponent can come back, and we did a pretty good job of playing consistently.”

Chelsey Shumpert, freshman, guard

Thoughts on starting out slow and catching fire
“I don’t think we changed anything. We just let the game come to us. That’s what Coach Foster always says - let the game come to you and don’t force anything. I think we did that. We were patient and we moved the ball really well.”

On the difficulty of playing in runaway games
“I think it’s just mental. We are going to need that down the stretch late in the season and teams are going to start coming after us.”
