Postgame Quotes vs. Georgia Southern - Mar. 8, 2014

Head Coach Will Wade
Opening Statement:
“First off, I want to say congrats to Georgia Southern. They played a tremendous game and made a lot of plays down the stretch. (Tre) Bussey, their senior guard, did a really nice job finishing some things late. I’m proud of my team. We played really hard tonight. We played very well and did much better than in the first matchup. We outrebounded them. We turned it over a little too much. We missed a lot of wide open looks. We had one possession where we had two or three offensive rebounds and missed some open three’s. We fought hard all season. Z. (Mason) and Ronrico White were tremendous all season.”

On Georgia Southern’s second half defense:
They went to the zone. We got open looks, we just missed them. They are very long and just pack it in against us. What happens is you drive it in there and then it collapses. They are long and athletic. They have quick hands. It’s hard to spray it out against them. They are tough inside.”

Senior Forward Z. Mason
On emotions after game
“It’s just sickening right now. Tre Bussey makes some big shots going down to the end of the second half. He made plays for his team. At the end of the game, they made plays and it’s sickening.”

Junior Guard Ronrico White
Thoughts on season
“I feel like we did a good job of adjusting to what Coach Wade wanted us to do. I feel like we trusted what he wanted to do and did a pretty good job at it. We prepared well tonight, but couldn’t get some shots to fall.”

Georgia Southern Head Coach Mark Byington
Opening statement:
“We’re a resilient bunch and a couple times, you think we’re down and you think we’re out, but they keep fighting and fighting. We did two things really well, we stuck together and believed. We beat a very good team today. Will (Wade) has done a terrific job. Chattanooga has a very good team. It is a great win for us. We’re going to approach things like we have the last couple of days, it’s another one-game season.”

On tomorrow’s game
“We’re very familiar with Wofford and Citadel. I want the guys to get a feel for the game. We have to go back and take care of our bodies. It’ll be three games in three days.”

Senior Guard Tre Bussey
On his team’s success
“It means a lot to get this far in tournament to everyone on the team and not just the seniors, but to the coaching staff. We wanted to go out and represent our school, coaches and ourselves the right way and play hard.”

Senior Forward Marvin Baynham
On his performance tonight
“I try to pride myself in being that guy. I try to be there when my team needs rebounds or defensive plays. I pride myself on hustle plays.”
