SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga catcher Anyssa Robles (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week Tuesday evening by the league’s office. Robles is just the second Moc to gain the honor this season.
Robles was 7-for-15 over the weekend and helped the Mocs to three wins in Clearwater, Fla., at the USF Under Armour Showcase. The sophomore catcher batted .467 with five RBI in the Sunshine State, including one extra-base hit.
Highlights over the three-day trip included a 2-for-2 performance against Fordham. Including three walks, Robles also drove in two of Chattanooga’s 10 runs scored against the Rams.
The sophomore was also 2-for-4 in the Mocs 7-2 win over Seton Hall, driving in three Chattanooga runs. Robles tallied a hit in every game over the weekend and took the top spot as the team’s hitting leader with 26 base-hits on the year. The catcher also leads the Mocs in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.529) and on-base percentage (.451).
Robles and the Mocs are in action Saturday and Sunday in Boone, N.C., as Chattanooga opens up Southern Conference play against Appalachian State. Saturday’s doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m., and first pitch on Sunday is set for 1 p.m. as well.
