NOTES

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. --- Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) and Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) recorded top 10 finishes leading the Chattanooga Mocs to sixth-place at the Briar’s Creek Invitational. Chattanooga’s 901 was two behind No. 11 Clemson in fifth-place at 899.

The Mocs’ five losses were to teams ranked ahead of them. The 11 wins included four top 50 wins (Kansas, Wisconsin, East Tennessee State & Illinois). It was a strong performance against a field that included 14 teams ranked in the top 100 in the country.

“We took a step in the right direction for sure this week,” Head Coach Colette Murray said. “Our focus was really on ourselves, so I am proud of the effort and fight throughout. We’ve had a tendency to shoot our way out of it early in tournaments.

“We gave ourselves a chance so I was pleased with all three rounds.”

McLennan and Sauzon each recorded strong round shooting minus one and even par, respectively. McLennan’s 71 today gave her a four-over total of 220, one ahead of Sauzon. Sauzon matched her opening round 72 for a 221 tying for ninth behind McLennan who tied for seventh.

“Great finishes for Emily and Aggie,” Murray continued. “That’s where they should be though. That’s what I expect and they expect.

“I was very happy with their play.”

Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) shot a second-straight 74 to end up tied for 22nd at 225. It was an impressive run by the Mocs’ top three averaging 74.00 strokes per round, nearly four strokes (3.74) better than the tourney average of 77.74.

Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) rounded out the counting scores with a 77, while Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) had a 79.

Texas Tech (888) started the day in fourth but fired a two-under par 286 to win by four over Penn State (892). The Nittany Lions were one behind the Red Raiders tied for fifth to start the day but shot plus-one 289 to stay on TTU’s heels. East Carolina (894) ended up third matching the Mocs’ 294.

Christina Vosters of Penn State roared to medalist honors shooting four-under par 68 to wind up at 215 (-1). It was a two-shot win over the trio of Ashley Burke (USF), Alexandria Papell (Maryland) and Lena Schaeffner (Coastal Carolina) at plus one.

Chattanooga is back to the tee on April 7 at the Web.com Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is played in Jacksonville, Fla., at Marsh Landing Golf Club.
