SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference office announced Chattanooga junior Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) as the league’s Pitcher of the Week for March 17-23 Monday afternoon. Deason is the first Mocs hurler to garner weekly honors on the year.
"Taylor pitched great this week," Head Coach Frank Reed said. "She got us groundballs like we wanted and pitched very well. We really wish she could have gotten the no-hitter Saturday, but we got the win and that's what matters most. She gave us a lot of momentum."
The right-hander compiled a 1-0 record with one save over three appearances last week. Deason maintained a 1.17 ERA in 12.0 innings of work, striking out 11 batters and yielded just two earned runs.
The junior pitched arguably her best game of the season in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Furman. As part of Chattanooga’s three-game sweep of the Paladins, Deason’s one-hitter led the Mocs to a 3-0 shutout. It was Deason’s second solo shutout of the season and first seven-inning one-hitter pitched by a Moc this season.
The Clarksville, Tenn., native showed her versatility Sunday afternoon as she made a relief appearance in the sixth inning against Furman. Deason threw two innings of shutout softball, fanning two batters and picking up her third save of the season.
