SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced Tuesday the league’s yearly awards and all-conference teams. Chattanooga junior Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) and sophomore Katie Henderson (Hixson, Tenn.) were named to the second team by the conference’s coaches.
Roberts garners her third second team honor, named to the same team in 2012 and 2013. A preseason first-team selection, Roberts batted a career-best .344 and crushed a career-high five homeruns in the 2014 regular season.
In Southern Conference play, the Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native batted .377 in 20 games. Her 39 total bases in the SoCon was a team-best and slugged a leading .565. Roberts posted a .456 on-base percentage in league play, as well.
Henderson was named to her first post-season team Tuesday after totaling 16 wins on the year. Posting a 1.79 ERA, the sophomore tossed 160.2 innings and recorded three solo-shutouts. The right-hander struck out 143 batters and held opponents to a .208 batting average.
In SoCon play, Henderson was 8-5 with a 1.64 ERA. With 17 appearances, the Hixson, Tenn., native threw two shutouts and kept opposing batters to a .184 average.
