Lady Mocs to Visit UAB in Final Midweek Tilt

As its season winds down, the Chattanooga softball team will travel to Birmingham, Ala.on Thursday for its final midweek games of the season with a doubleheader against UAB. The Lady Mocs (22-18/12-2 SoCon) enter the twin bill looking to extend their winning streak to three games.

The last time out UTC continued its winning ways in the conference with a sweep over Appalachian State. Chattanooga has now won five straight in the Southern Conference as the team takes off from league play. Sophomore Tiffany Baker will look to continue her torrid 2009 season on Thursday. So far this season Baker leads the team in batting average (.358), home runs (10) and RBI (32). In the circle, Michelle Fuzzard will try to improve on an 8-6 record with a 3.51 ERA.

Scouting UAB

The Blazers will look to improve on a 12-26 mark and snap a three-game losing streak. Martina Landrum is the leading hitter for UAB with a .360 batting average, while Cath Douglass paces the team with five home runs and 25 RBI. The pitching staff for the Blazers will try to lower their team ERA from 4.52 in the double-dip. So far in 2009 Lindsey Croft leads the team with six wins and an earned run average of 3.45.

Sophomore pitcher Brooke Loudermilk struck out 13 batters in the nightcap and junior third baseman Toni Hutchison delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh of the first game as Chattanooga (26-14, 6-0) swept the University of Alabama at Birmingham (18-23, 5-7 C-USA) 4-3 and 2-1 at Jim Frost Stadium.
