Lady Mocs Off to Charleston for Regular Season Finale

Fresh of its third Southern Conference Championship in as many years, the Chattanooga softball team will close out the regular season portion of its schedule with a three-game set at the College of Charleston. The Lady Mocs (25-20/14-3 SoCon) are coming off a weekend where the team took 2-of-3 from rival Georgia Southern for the program’s 11th SoCon title.
Tiffany Baker continues to lead the team at the plate with her .368 batting average, 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. Michelle Fuzzard snapped out of a brief slump last weekend against GSU, going 4-for-7 with two runs batted in.
Fuzzard will also look to keep her undefeated streak inside the conference alive this weekend. So far the sophomore is 5-0 in the circle with a 0.89 ERA. Brooke Loudermilk continues the lead the Lady Mocs’ pitching staff in ERA at 2.27. She also has a 6-1 record in 2009.

The Cougars (21-23/12-8 SoCon) enter the regular season’s last weekend on a four-game winning streak and have won five straight in the conference. CofC is led by Kristie Shifflett and her .372 batting average, nine home runs and 40 RBIs. As a team, the Cougars are hitting .284, which is good for second in the conference. In the circle, Terri Mesko anchors the pitching staff with her 2.95 ERA and 11-9 record.
Previous Meeting
Redshirt-freshman second baseman Tiffany Baker and junior outfielder Laci Upchurch each belted a home run and combined to drive in all five runs as Chattanooga (38-20) powered its way past No. 3 College of Charleston (33-33), 5-2 in loser’s bracket play in the 2008 Southern Conference Tournament.
The two teams will begin the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. from Patriot’s Point.
