Baker Selected as Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga softball player Tiffany Baker has been named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all sporting events from May 6-12, the league office announced Wednesday.

The sophomore sports a 3.56 GPA in physical education. Last week at the SoCon Softball Championship, Baker hit .400 with a home run and six RBIs. The East Ridge, Tenn., product also slugged .800 as the Lady Mocs won the championship for the second-straight season.

This season Baker has paced the Chattanooga offense in batting average, home runs and runs batted in. She is hitting .368 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs so far in 2009.

Baker and the Lady Mocs will now head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play Big XII foe Texas in the Tuscaloosa Regional. UTC and the Longhorns will square off on Friday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m. EDT. Live stats and streaming video will be available through GoMocs.com.

The 2013 season saw a youthful Lady Mocs team post 26 wins and 10 SoCon victories, including multiple highlights from its promising young athletes and mix of veterans.
