Attached Photo (Credit: GoMocs.com): Rising sophomore Zac Stolz opened his summer schedule with a tie for 11th finish at the Rice Planter’s AmateurCHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---It was an active week for the Chattanooga Mocs golf program with three student-athletes in the British Amateur and five more competing in the southeast. The British Am is well-documented, so let’s take a look at the five 2014-15 sophomores who competed over the weekend.
Zac Stolz finished tied for 11th at the 42nd Rice Planters Amateur at Snee Farm Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He shot 5-under par 283 over his 72 holes with 19 birdies and 42 pars. 15 of those birdies came over the final 46 holes as he carded scores of 74, 70, 68 and 71 on the par 72, 6,808-yard tract.
Wes Gosselin and Stuart Thomas made the cut at the Greystone Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. Gosselin tied for 35th shooting 294. His best round came on Saturday’s third round with a 3-under 69. Thomas tied for 44th tallying 298. Kory Webb and Andrew Weathers missed the cut.
Sophomore Brooks Thomas had a strong showing tying for 14th in the SunTrust Tennessee State Open at Belle Meade Country Club back in May. He was tied for eighth among the amateurs in the field with a 4-over total of 217 with consistent cards of 72, 72 and 73. The event was won by former Moc Steven Fox at 4-under played May 21-23.
