CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chris Robb continued his fine summer play with a win at the Cameron Corbett Vase earlier this month in Scotland. Robb shot 17-under par 271 at Haggs Castle Golf Club. After an opening 71, he carded played 16-under the rest of the way carding 68, 64 and 68 for the four-stroke win.
Robb’s won his last two events now as the triumph at Haggs Castle came a week after his runaway win at the East of Scotland Championship at Lundin Golf Club. Robb won by eight shots shooting 18-under. Over his last 144 holes, he has fired 35-under.
Liam Johnston tied for 19th at the Corbett Vase. He followed that with a tie for ninth at the Sutherland Chalise a week later.
Zac Stolz recently played in the 114th North & South Amateur at Pinehurst Country Club. He tied for 24th in what is a perennially strong field. His 54-hole total of 5-over par 218 included rounds of 73, 73 and 72. He finished one stroke ahead of SoCon Freshman of the Year Carter Jenkins (UNCG) and five clear of MTSU star Brett Patterson.
Stolz recently made a run at qualifying for the U.S. Amateur. He shot 2-under par 142 at Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga., home of the Linger Longer Invitational, but he fell short of a spot in the field. He and Wes Gosselin open play today at the Tennessee Match Play Championship at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville. Two days of stroke play qualifying leads to top 16 squaring off for two days of match play to determine champion (scoring).
Johnston and rising sophomore Ewan Scott are busy before coming back to the Scenic City. The duo is slated to tee off Monday (July 28) at the Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship at Downfield Golf Club in Dundee City. After 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, the winner is decided in match play with the final day scheduled for Saturday, August 2.
Stolz, Gosselin, Brooks Thomas, Stuart Thomas, Andrew Weathers and Kory Webb also hit the course on Monday, July 28. The group is in the second annual Choo Choo Invitational at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga. The 54-hole event ends on Wednesday, July 30.
Stolz, Gosselin, Brooks, Stuart and Weathers are all competing in the Tennessee Amateur August 5-8 at Memphis Country Club. Gosselin, Stolz, Stuart Thomas and Weathers all qualified for the event earlier this month while Brooks had exempt status.
Shortly after the Tennessee Am starts, Johnston and Scott hit the links in St. Andrews, Scotland.
