GREENSBORO, Ga.--Led by Jonathan Hodge’s 7-under par performance, Chattanooga is 6-under par as a team and in fourth place after two rounds at the Linger Longer Invitational.

“Jonathan is playing great” said UTC head coach Mark Guhne. “There are 15 players in this field ranked ahead of him, and he is ahead of 14 of them and tied with the 15th. When Jon plays with the big boys, he really steps up his game.”

Hodge, the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year, fired rounds of 69 and 68 and is tied for the individual lead heading into tomorrow morning’s final round. Hodge’s eagle on the seventh hole led a final flurry in which the Mocs, who finished on the front nine, played the last three holes of the second round 7-under par.

The Mocs were 1-over par as a team with three holes to play before Hodge’s eagle and three straight birdies from freshman Fredrik Qvicker gave the Mocs a second round total of 282 and propelled the team from 10th place to fourth in the team standings.

“Every player on this team deserves credit for the way they finished” said Guhne. “Mitch Brock bogeyed three of his first five holes, but he kept grinding and played his last nine in 2-under par to get back to 1-over. Freddie (Qvicker) birdied his last three holes to post a 69, his lowest score as a collegian. Bryce (Ledford) birdied two of his last three holes. It was a total team effort. Bryce, Mitch and Freddie all had rounds that could have gotten away from them, but they were mentally tough enough to gut it out and make something good happen.

The Mocs trail top-ranked Georgia by 11 strokes and No. 24 Florida State by eight. The Mocs, ranked No. 37, are two strokes ahead of Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern and three ahead of No. 3 Alabama. The Crimson Tide will be a top-seed in the NCAA Central Region Championship later this week.

The Mocs will play with Georgia Southern and Alabama tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 8:30. The Mocs will play in the NCAA East Regional later this week for the first time in school history.
