AUGUSTA, Ga. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team shot four-under par (284) today to end up in eighth-place at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. The sub-par round pushed Chattanooga past No. 16 Alabama, SoCon rival UNC Greensboro and USC-Aiken.
Augusta State won its event shooting 47-under par, 817. No. 17 South Carolina finished second at 833 (-31), while Duke rounded out the top three at 843 (-21).
Derek Rende carded five birdies and an eagle en route to a five-under par 67 and a 54-hole total of 210 (-6). He moved from a tie for 33rd to start the day into a tie for 14th.
Also tied for 14th was Stephan Jaeger. Jaeger's final round 72 (E) gave the sophomore a 210 (-6) as well. Jaeger and Rende each turned in par or better cards in all three rounds.
J.T. Clendenin (73) and Steven Fox (72) rounded out today's team scoring for the Mocs. Clendenin's 218 (+2) placed him tied for 47th, while Fox ended up tied for 62nd at 221 (+5).
Fredrik Qvicker tied for 89th at 229 after counting his first two rounds. Alex Ratliff played as an individual winding up tied for 76th at 225.
Augusta State's Henrik Norlander fired a 65 (-7) to claim medalist honors at 15-under par, 201. Teammate Patrick Reed, the second round leader, came in second at 203 (-13), while a trio of golfers tied for third at 10-under.
The Mocs hit the championship run in their schedule heading to Florence, S.C., April 18-20, for the Southern Conference Championship. Chattanooga is the three-time defending champion as the event returns to the Country Club of South Carolina.
