CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Stephan Jaeger completed his wire-to-wire win at the Signal Mountain Invitational Sunday evening at the Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club. Jaeger, the 2010 Southern Conference Golfer of the Year, shot rounds of 65, 67 and 70 to finish 11-under par 202, one shot shy of the tournament record.
"It is a great tune up heading into regionals this week," said head coach Mark Guhne. "Stephan played great all weekend and is ready to head west (San Diego). I'm proud that the top four were all Mocs."
Jaeger was followed by former UTC standout Brendan Wilson who finished second four shots off Jaeger's sizzling pace at minus-seven, 206. Assistant coach and former Mocs All-Region performer Ben Rickett was third at 207 (-6), while current freshman Steven Fox ended up fourth at 208 (-5).
This is the second straight year a UTC golfer has claimed the coveted area title. Current senior J.T. Clendenin, a May graduate, won last year's crown finishing at eight-under, 205.
Jaeger, Fox and Clendenin head to San Diego with teammates Derek Rende and Fredrik Qvicker for the NCAA Southwest Regional played at Carlton Oaks Golf Club May 20-22. The Mocs will look for a top five finish and return to Chattanooga for the national championship June 1-6 at The Honors Course.
Tickets for the national championship can be purchased on GoMocs.com. A badge for all six sessions is $45, while a badge for any one session is $15. Kids 12 and under are admitted free.
