LAST TIME OUT
The Mocs claimed second place at the Linger Longer Invitational with an even-par 864.  No. 3 Alabama (-18) won the event on the backs of Cory Whitsett (-13) and Bud Cauley (-12) combining to shoot 25 under.  UTC beat No. 13 Georgia and No. 15 Stanford by two shots and 2010 NCAA Semi-Finalist Florida State by eight.  Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) tied for fourth shooting 211, minus five.  He beat five top 100 collegiate golfers including Georgia's Russell Henley by eight shots.  Henley is the No. 11 player in the world according to the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings.

UP NEXT
Chattanooga heads to the SoCon Championship April 17-19 at the Country Club of S.C. in Florence.

NOTES TO KNOW

  • The Mocs have won 14 titles in Guhne's previous five seasons including at least one in each campaign. The high was five in 2007-08. The last team win was the 2010 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. Last time Chattanooga had a medalist was earlier this year as Chris Robb (-9) won the 2010 Springhill Suites Collegiate (9/13-14).
  • As a team, UTC has nine par or better rounds this season. The low is the opening round 280 (E) at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The low vs. par came in the final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (-6 - 282).
  • Through three weeks of Spring competition, Chattanooga is on an impressive run for SoCon awards. All three weeks the team has competed, a Mocs student-athlete has captured Golfer of the Week honors. Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) won it March 9th, while Jaeger has earned it the last two weeks.
  • This is the 33rd LSU National Invitational. The event ran from 1961-92 and is in its first year back on the collegiate schedule. Former medalists include John Mahaffey (Houston, 1969), Hal Sutton (Centenary, 1980), Mark Brooks (Texas, 1983) and David Toms (LSU, 1987).
  • A good 12-team field is on hand for the 33rd edition of the invitational. One top 10 team (No. 9 LSU) along with a top 15 (No. 12 Iowa) headline five top 50 teams. Only three schools rank outside the top 100.
  • Par 5 scoring (counters): 4.77 - Leader: Jaeger, 4.63. Mocs rank No. 16 nationally, Jaeger No. 39.
  • Par 4 scoring (counters): 4.16 - Leader: Fox, 4.12. Chattanooga is ranked 43rd in the country.
  • Par 3 scoring (counters): 3.22 - Leader: Jaeger 3.03. UTC is 73rd nationally, Jaeger No. 26.
  • Five of the nine Mocs are from outside the state of Tennessee, while four are natives of the Volunteer State. Steven Fox (Hendersonville), Davis Bunn (Knoxville), Alex Ratliff (Kingsport) and McKeehanon Rue (Athens) are from Tennessee, but the only other state represented is Alabama (Jackson Lockhart - Brownsboro). The other four are from Europe (Simon Forsslund - Sweden, Stephan Jaeger - Germany, Chris Robb - Scotland, Benni Weilguni - Austria).
